Mission statement

Our mission is to support the moral, intellectual and spiritual development of the Czech and Slovak people. In addition, we preserve, maintain, and improve the camp Hostýn as a meeting place and a recreational facility and organize various cultural activities. Camp Hostýn is the last remaining piece of property in the province of Quebec owned by the Czech or Slovak community.

Membership

A person of Slovak or Czech origin, their spouse, or a person closely connected to the Czech Republic or Slovakia (for example through knowledge of the language, culture, history etc.) may become a member of HA. A member’s duties include paying membership fees, protecting the good name of HA, promoting and participating in HA activities, and complying with HA statutes. Members are required to be loyal to HA and promote the interests of HA. Members receive special offers and have priority with reservations. Members that significantly contribute to HA and are actively involved in supporting HA can apply for voting membership.

The application can be downloaded in PDF.

How you can contribute and get involved with Camp Hostýn

  • All work, renovations, and repairs at Camp Hostýn are carried out by a group of volunteers, both members and non-members of HA.
  • Camp Hostýn is open to the public; HA membership is not required to visit Camp Hostýn.
  • Help is always welcome with cleaning, mowing the lawn, painting picnic tables, and similar tasks.
  • Every year, the camp hosts a spring and fall brigáda. During a weekend, members and volunteers get together to help with tasks around camp. Accommodations and food are provided. This is one of Hostyn's most cherished community events.
  • You can help either during organized work brigades or outside of them by agreement with the site manager.
  • HA also welcomes help in the kitchen during organized events (Pilgrimage to Our Lady of Hostýn, Slovak Picnic, etc.).
  • At the children's camp, activity leaders, cooks, assistant cooks, a maintenance worker, and a camp director are needed.
  • Camp Hostýn welcomes donations of building materials, tools and equipment, gardening supplies, kitchen appliances and equipment, and sports equipment.
  • Direct financial support is also welcome; HA will issue a receipt.

For information about cooperation opportunities, donations, and sponsorship, please contact any member of the Board of Directors.
